ABOUT ME

Bilingual Somatic Psychotherapist

I support individuals who are seeking to change relationship, behavioral, or emotional dynamics that are hindering them from experiencing ease in their lives. I assist adolescents and adults. I am also bilingual, in English and Spanish, and I practice in both languages.

I hold a Master's Degree from Naropa University in Somatic Counseling Psychology with a focus in Dance Movement Therapy. I also have post-masters training in motivational interviewing (MI), cognitive behavioral therapy, solution focused brief therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, and brain spotting. This eclectic therapeutic skill set allows me to individualize treatment for a wide range of individuals.

With that said, I favor the use of motivational interviewing, which is person centered and compliments other methods. As an MI therapist, my goal is to elicit your hopes for yourself, and to work collaboratively and empathically, while directing you toward change.

As a dance/movement therapist (DMT), I believe that psychological, social, spiritual, and emotional experience is lived through the body; and through awareness of the body and its movement, we can harness and integrate these aspects of self. I believe that one must learn to feel better - have a heightened awareness of bodily experience - in order to feel better. As a DMT, my goal is to increase your body awareness and integrate your body and mind experience, so that you can reach a state of ease in your life.

ABOUT PSYCHOTHERAPY

What to Expect

It is essential to keep in mind that therapy is a healing process that takes time and necessitates participation and investment from the client. Expect to do much of your work outside the therapy office, where you will put into practice the new skills and knowledge you acquire in therapy. Also, know that consistency, in showing up and in practicing, is key in keeping the momentum of change going.

Dance Movement Therapy vs. Talk Therapy

If you hear the words dance/movement therapy and you think this type of therapy is not for you, please consider that dance movement therapy is not all dance and movement. It is also learning about how we inhabit our bodies and using this knowledge for personal growth and healing. Likewise, if the thought of talking to a therapist is daunting, know that I'm not opposed to silence. There are many ways to communicate and I employ a variety of talk therapy and body centered methods, so that I can meet you where you are.
